Video Highlights: Chelsea 1-0 Brighton - All Goals (Watch)

The pressure eased on Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea progressed into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a slender win courtesy of Nicolas Jackson's second goal for the club. It was a classy finish worthy of a £32m summer signing and possibly priceless for his under-fire manager.

It took until the second half to make the breakthrough and secure a place in the last 16, but it was worth the wait. Fellow close season recruit Cole Palmer received the ball on the half turn on the edge of the box and found Jackson in space. The Senegalese striker calmly slotted the ball beyond Bart Verbruggen and that was enough to seal a first win for the Blues since a 3-1 victory over AFC Wimbledon in the previous round.

Man Utd Best Line up against Everton

Image
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is likely to make some changes to his starting XI after suffering a 6-3 defeat to their city rivals Manchester City last weekend. The Red Devils saw a streak of four successive league wins come to a crashing end at the Etihad Stadium, with only a late brace from substitute Anthony Martial making the scoreline appear less embarrassing for his side. The France forward scored from the bench again to help Man Utd turn the game around against Omonia in the Europa League on Thursday, and he appears to be in line for his first start of the season having impressed during pre-season before suffering a serious tendon injury. Marcus Rashford, who bagged a brace despite only coming on at half-time of his side's 3-2 win in Cyprus in midweek, could shift to the left flank in order to accommodate Martial through the middle, with Jadon Sancho likely to make way after being hooked at half-time. Ten Hag branded his side as being "not very good" in his po...

Ten-man Chelsea hold on to get a vital home win as they beat Brighton 3-2. The Blues made a perfect start to the game, with two corners causing Brighton all sorts of problems.  Fernandez headed in his first Premier League goal from the first, while Colwill thumped in his first Chelsea goal to double their tally.  That lead was halved just before the break, with Buonanotte curling in a wonderful strike before Gallagher received his second yellow card.  Fernandez got his second of the game in the 65th minute from the spot after Milner fouled Mudryk, and it took Brighton until stoppage time to pull back another, with Pedro flicking it in at the near post.  In the dying moments, the referee awarded a spot-kick to the Seagulls for handball, but it was overturned by VAR. It's a win that lifts Chelsea into 10th, and they'll be hoping to build some momentum off this as they travel to Manchester United on Wednesday.  Brighton stay in eighth, with Brentford at home next u...

Reece James injury Update and return Date finally revealed

Image
See the latest update on Chelsea defender Reece James injury and possible return date. Reece James has been in outstanding form this season but hobbled off against AC Milan in the Champions League earlier this week and is set for a short spell on the sidelines. The England international performed expertly well in the reverse fixture against the Italian champions and became the youngest Chelsea player to score and assist in the same Champions League game in the 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge. But his outing at the San Siro was less successful after he lasted just 62 minutes before he was forced off with a knee problem. According to Evening Standard, James will undergo further tests before Chelsea discover the extent of the damage. The report claims that Graham Potter's side are 'optimistic' he'll make a quick recovery and Phillips reckons he's likely to sit out the meetings with Aston Villa and Brentford and is targeting the visit of Manchester United on Saturday week. H...

Four years deal agreement reached as Todd Boehly makes official announcement on first Chelsea imminent transfer.... Read more Chelsea's new owner Todd Boehly has made clear his stance on spending on new players as he embarks on his first transfer window with the Blues. During Roman Abramovich's time as owner, the London side were regularly among the biggest spenders in the Premier League. However, after Boehly's group completed their takeover, with the deal formally announced in May, some supporters were left wondering whether the days of big-money deals will continue. The final season of Abramovich's 19-year tenure saw Chelsea finish third, some distance behind Manchester City and Liverpool. As the Blues attempt to close the gap on last season's top two, Boehly has given some hints about what might be in store. "Financial Fair Play is starting to get some teeth and that will limit ability to acquire players at any price," Boehly said at the SuperReturn In...

Video Highlights: Sheffield United 1-2 Manchester United - All Goals (Watch) Manchester United pay tribute to club legend Bobby Charlton, who died on Saturday at the age of 86, with a battling 2-1 victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.  McTominay's first-half opener was soon cancelled out by McBurnie's penalty, which was conceded by the Scotland international shortly after his goal at the other end.  The Red Devils toiled in the second half and went close through Amrabat before Dalot's curling finish snatched all three points on the road.  The victory lifts Ten Hag's side up to eighth, while Heckingbottom's men remain bottom of the Premier League and still without a win this season on their top-flight return.  The Blades visit high-flying Arsenal next Saturday before Manchester United host rivals Manchester City the day after. The Red Devils are also in Champions League action against Copenhagen in midweek. That is all for now, until next time – goodbye! ...
